I’m absolutely over the moon to share some exciting news. As the 2024 rankings rolled in, I found out that I’ve been awarded my second Golden X for the year and even more thrilling, I’ve been named the #1 Still Life Photographer in Australia and ranked #6 globally in the 2024 One Eyeland Top 10 Still Life Photographers.

To say I’m humbled is an understatement. It’s one thing to be recognised nationally, but to be placed in the top 10 in the world especially in a category as detailed and creatively demanding as still life is something that still hasn’t fully sunk in.

This recognition came from a selection of my work spanning both personal passion projects and commissioned commercial shoots. As a still life photographer, I love working with everyday objects and bringing them to life in a way that feels considered with a narrative and visually powerful. Who could have imagined a packed of biscuits could be so exciting! The submitted images represented some of the areas I specialise in food photography, drink photography, beverage campaigns, and product photography, all areas that require a delicate mix of technical control and creative expression.

Some of the images that made it into the award submission also included my more conceptual, botanical-inspired pieces, the kind of work where I’m not tied to a brief or a client, just creating from the heart. These artworks are often deeply personal, shaped by moments from my own life, and they allow me to explore a more creative photographer mindset beyond commercial work. I feel this is incredibly important as a commercial photographer to continue to create and push boundaries through personal work as it helps keep your commercial execution fresh and love for your art. On the other side of the submission, there were pieces developed in close collaboration with agencies and brands the more structured, fast-paced side of the job that I’ve come to really enjoy as a commercial food and beverage photographer, the awarded work showcased my highly technical executions and unique creative vision.

While this may have been my first time entering the One Eyeland Still Life Top 10, it definitely wasn’t something built overnight. This recognition is the result of over 20 years of work, a couple of decades spent constantly learning, refining, experimenting, and pushing my craft. Whether I’m in the studio shooting for a client or working solo on a personal series, I’ve always believed in putting the same level of energy and intention into each frame.

Being named Australia’s #1 still life photographer for 2024 is especially meaningful. I’ve always felt that Australian photographers bring something unique to the table, possibly our smaller market compared to the global scale allows for a little more creative freedom in commercial projects or maybe our unique love of food, culture and influences from around the world help shape our images, whatever it is I am excited to say this year there were two Australians in the global top 10! Which is a great reminder of the creative talent we have here at home. It’s inspiring to see the standard of photography in this country continuing to rise and I hope that global brands do consider some of our local talent in future campaigns.

As a Sydney based photographer, I’m lucky to be surrounded by a thriving creative community. Whether it’s capturing a moody cocktail shot for a drinks brand, crafting a clean product setup, or building a conceptual image for a personal series, I love the variety of work that comes through the studio. Every project is different, and that’s part of what keeps the job so exciting.

To everyone who made the One Eyeland Top 10 list this year congratulations! It’s an incredible achievement, and it’s been so motivating to see the range of work and voices represented from around the world.

If you’re looking to work with an award-winning photographer in the still life, food, drink, beverage, or product photography space Globally or locally in  Sydney or anywhere in Australia I’d love to connect. Whether you’re a brand looking to elevate your visuals or an agency in need of fresh creative, let’s make something that stands out.

Thanks again to the judges and the One Eyeland team for the honour, in a time that we as society are oversaturated with content, in a time that AI created images may take over it’s a privilege to see real raw creativity will shine through and I can’t wait to keep building on this momentum and creating new work that challenges me, tells a story, and keeps evolving the craft.
